1) 1960- 1979 |
It started under the name ¡°Association
of Korean Medical Record Administrator¡± as a substructure of
Korean Hospital Association in 1966. It eventually became an
independent organization in 1968 and changed its name to "Korean
Medical Record Association(KMRA)". It was authorized as an incorporated body by Ministry of Health and Welfare in 1977, and started to manage license exam and certification of registered record administrator/technician. |
2) 1980 - Present |
Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare enacted the followings in 1982: National license exam for medical record professionals(only one job title), required qualification of the applicants, standard curriculum for education programs, continuing education requirements, the sphere of their job, etc.
There are more than 20 junior colleges and more than 10 four
year programs educating students who want to be medical record
professionals. Around one thousand person apply to national
license exam every year and the average passing rate is 60%.
It is mandatory by law to set medical record department with certified medical record professionals in every hospital-level health care facilities. |

Carrying on education programs of up to date knowledge and technology concerning medical record/information to its members. Through national conventions, seminars, and special education programs, KMRA supplies very up to date information, knowledge, and information technology such as DB, EMR, data mining, data warehouse, SPSS, SAS, quality improvement, etc. for improvement of its members' ability and for being prepared professionals in these changing work environment. KMRA also provides information to the members through counseling, advising, research and development. |

A represented organization for rights and interests of medical record administrators As the representative body of medical record professions, KMRA cooperates government in carrying out national license exam, accreditation survey for health care facilities, health care data collection of hospitals and clinics, etc. As a committee member it participates in decision making process in governmental or health care research organizations. KMRA made some special researches on various topics such as Analyzing the causes of disease in Korea, Standardization of medical record format and contents, Standardization of diseases and procedures coding, Standardization of health care terms, digitalized medical record, etc. As we greet electronic medical record era, the most important issue is to define certain work areas and the new roles of medical record practitioners. KMRA will make positive environment for medical record practitioners by educating members for the new working techniques. KMRA is also planning to host the Congress in 2007 and show great abilities of Korean health related workers and KMRA to our colleagues. |
3) | Preparing for bidding to host 15th IFHRO Congress Thirteen members in the Preparatory Committee of KMRA are now actively preparing to host the upcoming 15th IFHRO Congress in 2007. |
